Over the past few months, we’ve had the opportunity to participate in inspiring webinars to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Bridgestone SSC. During the last meeting in September, we listened to Sylwia Majcher, an environmental educator, who introduced us to the topic of less waste – i.e. activities focused on reducing waste of resources and reducing the amount of waste produced.
This topic was inspired both by the slogan of this year’s celebrations (Better work, better life, better world) and Bridgestone’s approach to sustainable development. We want to take care of the planet and the world around us not only through organizational activities but also through individual ones – those in which we can easily get involved.
We know the problem of wasting food and water, as well as the one related to the excessive production of waste, but we are not always aware of what we can do to fight it and whether our actions really make sense. Thanks to the vast knowledge of our guest, we found out that we can do a lot and, what’s important, it does not require much effort!
Sylwia presented the topic with great commitment and passion – we felt the power to act right away! It all started with cooking on the screen – we learned that while preparing pumpkin dishes, we can use more than a flesh to make something delicious (we did not know that the pumpkin peel is perfect for crisps)! In the next part of the webinar, we learned about inspiring and – most importantly – simple solutions, thanks to which the idea of less waste can be implemented not only in the kitchen, but also in the bathroom or… in the wardrobe. And that it’s beneficial not only for the environment, but also for our wallet.
The meeting initiated a very interesting discussion in our team. It was also an impulse for us to finalize the initiative we have been working on for some time – creating a notice board (on the internal communication platform) where we can exchange things we no longer need. The most important thing that the meeting made us realize is that all these small activities are important not only for the world around us but most of all – for ourselves. After all, we live in this world and have a real opportunity to change it for the better.
We are glad that so many employees decided to join the meeting (the previous ones too!). This is great proof that our team wants to develop not only in work-related areas. And we are happy to give them the space for it.
