As part of the next month of celebrating the 10th anniversary of Bridgestone SSC in Poznań, we had another opportunity to participate in an unusual webinar. This time its subject was inspired by the slogan „Better world” and the upcoming holiday season. Karolina and Bartek Wudniak, the authors of the TropiMy Przygody blog, met us virtually to talk about responsible tourism – because tourism, although brings a lot of benefits to local communities, can also have many negative effects if it’s not sustainable.
Karolina and Bartek started their lecture the way every journey begins – with the planning. They told us how to responsibly prepare for a visit in a new place and gave us tips on how to behave during and after the trip. All the information that travellers shared with us had one objective – to minimize the negative effects of our travels on the environment and on the local communities.
Why have we decided to bring up this topic? Because responsible travelling is a step towards sustainable development. This approach does not make the journey difficult and doesn’t take any pleasure from it. Actually, it allows you to derive even more satisfaction from every journey. And speaking of sustainable development… it is a very important thing for us at Bridgeston! In our daily activities and during work, we try to reduce harmful emissions as much as possible, we take care of the appropriate planning of production and processes, and we also undertake various activities to protect the environment. But we know that there’s always more than can be done!
That’s why we wanted to focus on an issue that we have a lot of influence on as individuals. We want to give employees the tools and tips to develop simple but effective habits that will be good for the environment (and ultimately – for people!). Small steps and little changes, if followed on a large scale, can produce amazing results. We want to be part of them. And so, during the meeting, we found out for example why taking pebbles or shells as souvenirs is not a good idea and we got to know the ways and ideas for traveling in the spirit of zero/less waste.
We are very happy that we had the opportunity to explore the topic of responsible traveling and to learn about its many aspects. And although this year’s vacation will probably be different than usual, we believe that the knowledge gained from the webinar will be useful while planning again our next trips without restrictions – and we will be able to do it really responsibly!
